Valerian Root is a long-lived plant, indigenous to Europe and parts of Asia. It thrives in meadows and woodlands under moist, temperate conditions, and has since spread to North America. The plant can grow up to two meters tall and bears small clusters of white or pink flowers with a sweet, pleasant aroma. In contrast, the roots have a distinct, pungent odor. The root system comprises a vertical rhizome and numerous smaller rootlets, which are harvested and dried below 105°F.
