This product is a plant-based supplement that contains glucoraphanin, which is extracted from broccoli seed. In nature, when broccoli seed/sprout cells break open (when the plant is damaged or eaten) glucoraphanin is released and mixes with a naturally occurring companion enzyme (myrosinase). When these two compounds meet, they form a new substance called sulforaphane (SGS). This broccoli supplement relies on the ability of the gut flora to convert glucoraphanin to sulforaphane. SGS is rapidly absorbed, transported systemically in the blood, metabolized, conjugated, and excreted in the urine. In the process of uptake and elimination from the cells, it induces the formation of a variety of detoxifying and antioxidant peptides and proteins that result in effective up-regulation of the body's natural phase II detoxification enzymes. SGS activates the body's natural detoxification and antioxidant enzymes and protects cells from free radical damage for days after being consumed.
