How does Lactrase work? The enzyme lactase contained in Lactrase breaks down the milk sugar and thus takes over the function of the body's own lactase, which is lacking in the event of a lactase deficiency. Lactrase therefore generally enables milk and milk products to be enjoyed without symptoms. This also ensures that the body is supplied with the essential nutrients, minerals and vitamins contained in milk. These include in particular protein, calcium, vitamin A and vitamin D. Where does the lactase contained in Lactrase come from? The lactase enzyme contained in Lactrase is not of animal origin. It is made using the microorganism Aspergillus oryzae, which has been used to produce food enzymes for decades. Where is the lactase released? After consumption, the capsule dissolves in the stomach within a few minutes and releases the lactase it contains, which is then available for splitting the lactose in the chyme. Gastric juice-resistant encapsulation of the enzyme we use is not necessary because Lactrase contains a so-called “acidic” lactase. This has the special ability to work well in the acidic environment of the stomach.
