Each bag contains 4 oz of organic or wildcrafted white hawthorn, cut and sifted, from Mexico. The plant is Crataegus monogyna, known as espino blanco in Spanish, which means white thorn. One ingredient, nothing added. WHAT WHITE HAWTHORN IS: a thorny shrub or small tree of the rose family, alongside raspberry, blackberry and rose itself, covered in white blossom in spring. It grows across Europe, North Africa and western Asia. This bag is from Mexico. HOW TO BREW IT, AND WHY IT IS A LONG STEEP: add 1 to 2 teaspoons to 8 fl oz of boiling water and steep for 10 to 15 minutes, then strain. That is a long steep by the standards of this range and it is deliberate. Hawthorn is woody and does not give much up in five minutes. The pieces are small, so a fine mesh strainer or a tea ball works best. TASTE: mild and slightly tart, with a dry, faintly woody finish. Gentler than most of the barks and roots in the range, and it takes lemon well. Naturally caffeine free. Store tightly closed in a dry place, 59 to 86 degrees F.
